Village Chiefs Association demands ex-gratia

The Village Chiefs Association, Tamenglong and Noney districts have sought the attention of the Chief Minister to award ex-gratia of seven persons who died due to drowning, bee sting and snake bite.
In a statement, the association reminded that the matter (ex-gratia) was cleared by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Tamenglong and Noney districts and was forwarded to the State Government for approval of the State Executive Committee (SEC) for award of ex-gratia.
However the matter has been pending for a long time without any action taken.
While Gaidonrei Kamei (35) of Kekru village and Simon Kamei (29) and Pouphunlung Kamei (27) of Thingou village drowned in Gaithipang and Barak Rivers on August 16, 2019, Obedient Rongmei (7), Poudungai Rongmei (6) and Gaipuidinliu (4) of Kekru Village were stung to death by bees on October 14, 2017 .
The seventh victim, Gaigongrei Rongmei (7) of Kekru Village died of snake bite on June 16, 2018, said the association.
In view of the suffering of the aggrieved families, the association urged the Chief Minister to take up the matter with the officials concerned at the earliest and to release the ex-gratia amount.
