Farmers' training held

A one-day farmers' training programme on Integrated Crop Production and Rejuvenation of Old mandarin orchard in Tamenglong was held today at Hotel Imphal.
The programme was organised by Horticulture and Soil Conservation dept under Orange Development Programme in Tamenglong district.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dy CM Gaikhangam, who is also in-charge of Horticulture and Soil Conservation said that the soil of Tamenglong very much suitable for orange cultivation that orange grows wildly in the district topographic areas.
Likewise, different horticultural crops thrive in different areas.
Ukhrul is known for Lemon; passion fruit is extensively grown in Senapati while pineapple grows abundantly in Churachandpur and Imphal East, the Dy CM said.
He urged the farmers to consult officials and experts of the Horticulture dept about their problems while stressing on the viability of changing the State's economy through promoting horticulture crops of the State.
The programme was attended by Dy Director (Hqs), Dept of Horticulture & SC, Manipur, Md Hafizuddin Khan; Joint Director (H), Dept of Horticulture &SC, AS Ningmi and District Officer (H&SC), Tamenglong, N Tomba Singh.
In the technical session, Dr RK Dilip Singh of CAU and Dr Ibohal Singh of CAU spoke on different topics.
A group discussion was also held during the session.
