Imphal, March 18 2012:
The 2nd foundation day of Irengbam Ragini Foundation was observed at the premises of Manipur Press Club here today.
The function was graced by M Shantikumar, IPS, retired IGP, Government of Manipur and Padmashree Laishram Nabakishwar Meitei as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Advocate, Ng Tejkumarn and Momo Tantanga, President, ATDUM were also present as the Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Ng Tejkumar observed that one should always take the help of law of the land in the fight to ensure the fundamental rights of physically challenged persons.
The physically challenged persons should be made aware of the various schemes which are available and are especially designed for them by the Union government in the most accurate manner.
Momo Tantanga asserted that the state government seldom pays attention towards welfare of the physically challenged persons.
He pointed out that a separate Commissioner to look after the issues of physically challenged persons is yet to be instituted by the state government and as such no developmental works for the disabled people could be implemented in the state.
He further pointed out that the scholarship amount of Rs 40 per month being provided to physically challenged students is very meagre and this small amount is being deprived by the state government for the last many years.
