Global hand washing day observed at Ukhrul

Ukhrul, October 17 2017:
A one day awareness campaign on hand washing was held at Jesus Goodwill English School, Viewland, Ukhrul district today .
MO, Ukhrul Dr N Anil Bala led the demonstration of hand washing, to the students .
While interacting with the students, she spoke on the importance of hand washing before taking foods while adding that there are numerous micro germs in our hands which is not visible with our naked eye and the habit of hand washing or sanitizing should be adopted to prevent any diseases and infection.
“One basic way to prevent diseases or from spreading is regular washing of hands”, she asserted .
Dr Bala demonstrated seven steps of hand washing to the school children and told them to follow the principle of this healthy habit for their well being .
She said that a person should spare at least 20 seconds before and after eating or after going to toilets etc .
Meanwhile, Assistant Engineer, PHE, Themreishang mentioned some of the department’s programme for sustainable sanitation in the district .
He said that the Government has set target to construct 33000 toilets to abolish open defecation in the district .
The one day awareness programme was attended by Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Yuithing, SO, Ningchuimi, School principal and teachers .
Over 150 students participate in the hand washing session .
The awareness campaign was organized by Ukhrul District working Journalists’ Association (UDWJA) under the sponsorship of PHE Division, Ukhrul and SBM-DWSC.
