Chief Minister flags off first batch of Haj pilgrims

Imphal, August 12 2016 :
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi flagged off the first batch of Haj pilgrims from Imphal International Airport today.
Extending good wishes to the pilgrims, the Chief Minister expressed hope that the participating Meetei Muslims will pray for peace and prosperity of the land.
Manipur State Haj Committee Haj officer Md Salaouddin Khan was also present at the flag-off ceremony.
Altogether, 300 Meetei Muslims proceeded for Medina, Saudi Arabia, today.

A total of 357 pilgrims will be heading to Medina city of Saudi Arabia for the Haj pilgrimage.
The remaining 57 pilgrims will leave for Guwahati tomorrow from where they will fly to Medina on August 15, Salaouddin Khan.
Over 50,000 lakhs of people from all over the world will arrive at Saudi Arabia to offer prayers.
The pilgrims from the State have been given training on how to escape a stampede (if any occurs).
They have also been administered medicines which may prevent them from contracting different diseases during the pilgrimage.
In the meantime, a team of BJP Manipur Pradesh led by its president Ksh Bhabananda went to Imphal Airport to see off the pilgrims.
They also distributed food items to the pilgrims, our correspondent reports.
