Imphal, May 10 2021:
It will be better to vaccinate people after conducting a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on the spot.
Ex-MLA RK Anand said this while inspecting the Community Home Isolation Centre (CHIC) opened by Covid Warrior Malom, a voluntary organisation formed in the wake of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Malom area, today.
He presented essential items including flour, sugar, tea leaves, biscuits, eggs and drinking water to the centre opened at Malom Megha High School.
RK Anand added that conducting RAT for people coming to get vaccine at various vaccination centre across the state will have in identifying if some people have the virus despite being asymptomatic.
This will have in preventing the spread of the virus as well as from any adverse affect that might crept up from getting the vaccine during positive phase, he added.
He sought attention of the Government for the need to open some more vaccination centres in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC in addition to the vaccination currently being done at Mekola CHC so that more people can be vaccinated in a shorter time frame.
Being an Assembly Constituency without any MLA, it was commendable that the people of Malom have come out voluntarily and set-up a Community Home Isolation Centre (CHIC) at Malom Megha High School without much assistance from the Government, he added.
The Government should also extend support for such centres.
It would also be better if the Chief Minister himself look after Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC which is currently without any representative.
There are also plan to setup Covid Care Centre at Kamakhya Pemton College at Hiyangthang, the Government should also consider opening more Covid Care Centres to felicitate the ever increasing number of people infected with COVID-19, he added.
RK Anand also addressed the issue of shortage of bed for COVID-19 patients at state run hospitals.
As most of the people in the state belongs to lower income group, it will be very costly and hard for them to get treatment at privately run hospitals.
In this regard the Government should take up steps to ensure that such hardships are not faced by the patient/family during such hard times, either the Government can sign an MoU with such hospitals and assure to contribute part of the treatment cost for patients or the private hospitals can give some concessions, he added.
He also urged all local clubs and organisation to follow Malom model in the fight against the pandemic.
