Maharaj Gambhir Singh remembered

Maharaj Gambhir Singh Memorial Committee, Chandrapur, Cachar today commemorated the death anniversary of Maharaj Gambhir Singh at Chandrapur.
The commemoration function was attended by Committee president Keisam Bidyapati, historian and former general secretary of Manipur Sahitya Parishad Huirem Madan Mohan Singh, educationist and historian Chongtham Goura Singh, Manipuri Literacy Forum Assam general secretary Konthoujam Manganjaw, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Assam Banskandi Branch president Thokchom Ongbi Imathoi and Badri-Chandrapur Gram Panchayat Pradhan Nongthombam Ongbi Gunabati Devi as the presidium members.
Speaking at the function, All Assam Manipuri Students' Union vice president Fanjowbam Lokenath said the commemoration programme was organised in a befitting manner in order to educate the younger generation about the immense contribution of Maharaj Gambhir Singh for the people.
Konthoujam Mangangjaw stated that Maharaj Gambhir Singh is considered as one of the most able and efficient Kings of Manipur.
His skilful administrative system is being used as an example till date by many State's historians to recall some of the flourishing kingdoms of the past, he added.
Huirem Madan Mohan Singh in his speech described how the people of different religious sects at that time admired the qualities of Maharaj Gambhir Singh and participated in various activities to extend their admiration and support.
