Awareness drive on POCSO spreads

Children are the pillars of society and all efforts should be taken up to protect them from sexual offences and crimes, said Somorjit Salam, Deputy Commissioner of Senapati district today.
He was speaking at a one day awareness programme on Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) and Juvenile Justice Acts held at Mini Stadium, Senapati.
Ensuring safe and healthy environment and Right to Education are must to nurture them into responsible citizens.
Her/his interaction with the society is directly proportionate to her/his upbringing, therefore it is important to nurture them in right way with care, he said.
Understanding POCSO and Juvenile Act holds key to protecting children from offences that may destroy their future, he hinted urging all to take collective responsibility in creating an environment where children can realise their full potential.
Superintended of Police, M Pradip Singh also shed light on the various Acts protecting children.
He also encouraged all police personnel to strengthen public-police relationship and adopt constructive approach when dealing with civilians, especially children.
Addressing the gathering, Kaikho Hopeson Mao, president, Senapati District Students Association, called on people to root out all evils and inhuman act of sexual harassment from the district and State at large.
Thiyam Rajkishore, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Imphal West, Advocate Victoria, Retaining Lawyer, District Legal Service Authority spoke as resource persons at the event.
The programme was organised by the District Child Protection Unit, Senapati in association with Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) .
