Imphal, January 07 2012:
As the list of Congress candidates who would contest in the Assembly elections has been finally announced, many aspiring candidates have been left dejected with their supporters.
Anguished and dejected on leaving out former Speaker Md Maniruddin Sheikh from the list of candidates, a large number of his supporters made an abortive attempt to storm Congress Bhavan.
Likewise, alleging that the Congress leaders were discriminatory while allotting tickets, more than 5000 members of Kshetrigao Block Congress Committee led by its president N Biren decided to quit Congress party.
Moreover, sign-boards and Congress party flags put up at their Naharup Thongkhong office have been pulled down.
Raising voices of dissent, the Congress members burnt the BCC's letterheads.
In the same manner, members of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Block Congress Committee took out a protest rally against the alleged partiality exercised by Congress leaders while allotting tickets.
Similar scenes of angry protest were also seen in Khurai AC over not giving party ticket to the projected Congress candidate.
