Mayang Imphal incident : SUK, AMNM, EHWF and other demand befitting punishments for guilty

The Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK), Eastern Himalayan Women Forum (EHWF) and All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) have strongly condemned the incident of September 2, where a 14-year old girl was physically assaulted and dumped at a roadside pond at Mayang Imphal Maibam Pali Yengdoupat.
The girl died at RIMS ICU, yesterday.
In a statement issued today, SUK urged the State Government and department concerned to arrest all people involved in the incident and reward befitting punishments.
The students' union also shared the grief and pain of the family, relatives and friends.
Further asserting that all people found guilty should be punished as per the law of the land, SUK said that "Justice delayed is justice denied".
Eastern Himalayan Women Forum (EHWF) also expressed sadness over the death of the 14-year-old girl, who was found dumped at Mayai Imphal on September 2 .
EHWF is a network of women organizations working to the cause of indigenous women and children in the Eastern Himalayan Region of North East India.
"We are extremely concerned about the number of rape cases throughout Manipur and the widespread pattern of violence against women in the State, said Maggie L Ralte, convenor, EHWF.
Saying that EHWF strongly condemned the 'heinous' crime committed against a 14 yrs old minor girl during this pandemic, L Ralte urged the Government to form a Special Investigation Team to carry out a fair investigation as soon as possible.
After being reported missing on Tuesday, September 1 2020, the girl was found in an unconscious state at Mayang Imphal by a pedestrian, the following day.
She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries on Thursday.
The convenor also urged the Government to book all the culprits under the POCSO Act within 6 months so that justice is delivered in the Court of law.
Further urging all the members of the society to help reach the goal of creating a society free from all forms of violence and crime against women, she asserted that achieving absolute gender equality is the key to prevent violence against women.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Nupi Marup asserted that they take the incident of crime against women and children very seriously.
The women body appealed to the Court concerned to award capital punishments for all who are found guilty in the case.
Saying that deaths of certain jails' inmates when in police custody were reported in the past, AMNM asked the authority concerned to refrain from abusing the accused of the case who is now in police custody.
AMNM also said that accused of the case should not be granted bail on any grounds when the legal proceedings are going on.
All Manipur Women' Social Reformation and Development Samaj (AMWSRDS), while condemning the incident, asked Manipur State Commission for Women to do the needful to protect women and children from such atrocity.
