Imphal, May 04, 2013:
The Thoyee and Riha Villages Authority refuted the allegation that a group of people numbering about 24 armed with guns and other sharp objects like spade and axe attacking and ransacking Chadong village in Ukhrul district of Manipur, destroying several houses and properties besides looting about Rs 10 crore.
Terming the allegations as wild and baseless, a joint statement issued by Headman of Thoyee village and Headman of Riha village said that volunteers (youth) of Mapithel dam affected villages only retaliated to the violent and criminal activities of those vested and selfish people like Yaomi Kasar and Ashang Kasar who came to Chadong village with arms and State police personnel on April 30. The youth were provoked by the threat and torture meted out to the villagers by Yaomi Kasar's team, it stated.
It added that Yaomi Kasar put the blame on Thanmi Kashung, Huimi Kashung, Honreikhui Kashung, Standhope Kashung, Kahaoshang Mahongnao for the attack only because he had personal enmity with them.
The State Govt constituted the Expert review Committee in 2008 to work out RR programme on Mapithel dam affected villages and carried out seven rounds of negotiation till February 2011.Undermining such negotiations, the State Govt formed the a bogus organisation called MDMPDVC in July 2011 with vested leaders without public consent and discreetly signed an agreement on Sept 24, 2012, the joint statement said.
Pointing out that Yaomi Kasar and a section of Chadong villagers have claimed rehabilitation amount under the banner of MDMPDVC, it said that those villagers who have claimed the rehabilitation amount should leave Chadong village.
Passing the blame to the Govt for all the tension and turmoil among the Mapithel dam affected people, the statement also demanded the resumption of the ERC.
