1 killed, 19 hurt in bus mishap

A thirty-year-old woman was killed and 19 others injured when a Chiangpi bound passenger bus met with an accident at near Songpi village, about 5 kms from here at around 8 am today.
The deceased, Dimngaihlian, a resident of Gangpimual was travelling with her husband, Benlian and their one year-old child when the fatal mishap happened.
An eye witness who was involved in the rescue operation said the lifeless body of the young mother was found stuck beneath the bus.
"We had to manually raise the vehicle to recover the woman's body and rescued two others whose foot were stuck beneath", said Ramin, a resident of the neighbouring Nepali settlement.
Nineteen other passengers received first aid treatment at the District Hospital while five of them are still undergoing treatment.
The passenger bus was heading for Chiangpi, its routine destination with an exceptionally crowded occupants early today when it failed to negotiate through the accident prone steep hill stretches in between Pearsonmun and Songpi, said a source.
About a dozen people had already been killed in different mishaps occurred in and around the area.
