Imphal, October 02 2019: Details of the oil tanker from which WY tablets worth more than Rs two crore were seized by Meghalaya Police have not been disclosed/ascertained till date.

As such, many quarters have expressed strong suspicion that the details would never be disclosed to public.

Notably, Meghalaya Police intercepted the oil tanker which was travelling from Imphal to Guwahati at Khliehriat police station in the early morning of September 28 and recovered a large quantity of WY tablets weighing around 11 Kgs from inside the oil tanker.

The particular oil tanker was part of a convoy of empty oil tankers which were escorted by CRPF from Imphal till Jiribam on September 27 .

The oil tankers proceeded further from Jiribam without security escorts.

Meghalaya Police seized heroin and ganja from two night super buses on the same day at the same check point (Khliehriat police station).

A press release issued by the Superintendent of Police of East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat in connection with the seizure of WY tablets, heroin and ganja disclosed the registration numbers of the two night super buses.

However, it neither disclosed the registration number nor the details of the oil tanker's driver and his assistant who were arrested along with the WY tablets.

All the oil tankers which have been ferrying fuel to Imphal from outside the State are not affiliated to IOCL alone.

Some of them are affiliated to Essar, BPCL, NRL etc.

According to the IOCL's transport discipline guidelines, if any oil tanker affiliated to it is found transporting contraband substances, its transport contract would be terminated apart from taking stringent actions like imposition of fine.

However, IOC is still unable to take up any action as Meghalaya Police has not yet ascertained/disclosed the particulars of the oil tanker which was seized for carrying a large quantity of WY tablets.

The Senior Depot Manager of IOCL's Malom depot told The Sangai Express that they asked the SP concerned of Meghalaya Police to provide details of the seized oil tanker but the SP sent a written statement without the particulars of the oil tanker.

"With the particulars of the oil tanker still unknown, we are unable to take up any action", said the Senior Depot Manager.

Nonetheless, stringent actions were taken up against an oil tanker from which opium was seized at Mao in the past as police provided all the details of the particular oil tanker.

The transport contract awarded to the particular oil tanker was terminated and the oil tanker was disqualified from applying for fuel transport contract ever again apart from imposing fine, said the Senior Depot Manager.

"But this time, we cannot decide on the kind of action as of now", he further continued.
