Bodies condemn physical assault on Ringsanbou

The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has vehemently condemned the physical assault meted out to Ringsanbou Newmai, a Bachelar of Arts History Hons 5th Semister Student Studying in Don Bosco Maram on July 28 at around 7:30 pm by some local folks suspected to be underground cadres.
"It is so frustrating to see that Maram centre a temple of learning has turned to a safe abode for carrying out anti elements in the name of safeguarding the boarders/hostellers who are lodged in different private run hostels," ATSUM stated.
The tribal students' body also said frequent occurrence of infighting and physical assaults meted out to Maram college students by local goons at different point of time is not tolerable.
"For any crime, penalty/ punishment is awarded according to the nature of crime.
The village authority or local youth organisation for that matter is responsible to shoulder the functioning of governance at the grass root level as per the costmary laws and traditional practices.
There is no customary law amongst the Naga tribes wherein a person under the influence of alcohol should be given a third degree method of torture for intruding others house without prior permission," ATSUM stated.
The ugly episode of July 28, 2014 at Josephine Girls' Hosted at Maram is not a case that cannot be left unattended by students' bodies and civil organisations alike just for the simple fact that the warden/ proprietor has taken the laws into one's own hand.
It is surprising that even after 5/6 days of committing a heinous crime; the victim's family is yet to get any response from the runner of the hostel.
Whereas the Union having visited the victim who is struggling for life at ICU of JNIMS and having gone through the medical report with severe internal injury with damaged liver, kiddneys and Intestine apart from multiple injuries such as broken jaws and ghastly wound all over the body, it is confirmed that the beastly act committed was an attempt to murder, ATSUM stated.
"Further, the Union condemns imposition of double penalty, coupled with physical assaults and imposing fine Rs.5000 for the release of the victim without issuing any notice of appraisal to the victim's family.
To this end, ATSUM appeals the runner of the hostel to come at peace for amicably solution before the situation turns volatile.
The All Inpui Students' Union (AISU) also condemned the physical assault on Ringsanbou Newmai, a resident of Chiang Village studying at Don Bosco, Maram on July 28 last month.
According the press release, the accident could have been avoided if such case is overlooked by the concerned social organisation.
Assaulting a student in such manner where he is liable of losing life and career creating a fear psychosis to the students' community as a whole is condemnable, it informed.
AITU appealed not to repeat such act in the future and to bring an amicable negotiation and not to streamline the issue on ethnic line, it conveyed.
Few days back, similar cases happened in Delhi where innocent boys from Manipur Wilungbou Chawang (28) and Akha Salouni (30) were brutally beaten in which Akha Salouni was dead in National capital Delhi.
Such incident hampers the peaceful co-existence and harmony, it reminded.
In another separate press release, The Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) and Maram Naga Union condemned the physical assault of Ringsanbou Newmai, a Zeliangrong student, at Maram centre.
Ringsanbou Newmai is a History honours student (5th sem) in Don bosco Maram.
He was assualted by unknown persons suspected to be underground cadres on July 28 .
ZU and MNU is workingly jointly to find an amicable solution to the problem, a press release stated.
Meanwhile, the unions appealed to all organisations or committees to refrain from taking action without consulting ZU or MNU.
The union further extended its appreciation for the timely intervention of ZSUM and ZYF.
The apex body of Liangmai students' organisation, Liangmai Naga Katima Ruangdi (LNKR) also condemned the assault.
According to them Ringsanbou suffered multiple injuries, both internal and external, including broken jaw, liver and intestinal damage and head injury.
The assailant also demanded a sum of Rs 10,000, LNKR added.
The organisation offered its sincere prayer for the victim.
