NIA seizes Rs 48 lakh

National Investigation Agency (NIA) seized Rs 48 lakh (in cash) from an employee of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) which was allegedly handed over by the wife of former JNIMS Director Mutum Shyamo.
Mutum Shyamo was arrested by NIA on July 6 from New Delhi and is presently lodged in judicial custody in connection with alleged links with the proscribed KCP (Poirei) and for allegedly raising funds for the outfit.
According to a press release uploaded on the official website of NIA, it is mentioned that NIA has been investigating the activities of KCP.
During the investigation of the case, an NIA team, on August 30, seized Rs 48 lakh from one K Pramodini, an employee of RIMS and the seized money was produced by K Pramodini in the presence of independent witnesses.
The seized money allegedly belongs to N Sobita Devi, wife of Dr Mutum Shyamo (ex Director JNIMS Hospital).
It is further mentioned that during the investigation of the case it came to light that the said amount was handed over to K Pramodini by Sobita Devi for the purpose of concealing the fund which was collected by Dr Mutum Shyamo as a part of his activities in support of the proscribed organization.
It may be mentioned that after arresting M Shyamo on July 6, NIA conducted search operations at his residence at Lalambung Takhellambam Leikai on many occasions and during the search, NIA recovered Rs 40,03,000 in new currency and Rs 1 lakh in old currency respectively.
The said amounts were seized.
NIA had re-registered the case from Special Cell, Delhi Police, on March 16, 2017, to carry out further investigation in connection with the arrest of self styled Commander in Chief of KCP (Poirei) Khoirom Ranjit, along with his woman associate Irungbam Sanatombi, from Mayur Vihar, New Delhi, along with the recovery of two Chinese hand grenades from their possession.
During the arrest, Special Cell Delhi Police had claimed of a link between the arrested rebel leader with one close associate Sanabam Inaobi of Yairipok regarding kidnapping racket of the KCP (Poirei) outfit.
During the investigation of the case, one P Prem was arrested by Special Cell Delhi police from Manipur in the early part of 2017 and S Inaobi was arrested by NIA after re-registration of the case in December last year.
NIA had submitted two charge sheets in connection with the case before the Special Court NIA.
Patiala House Court, New Delhi, on December last year and on May 24, 2018, respectively, against the rebel leader Khoirom Ranjit alias Poirei alias Great Nacha s/o (L) Ningthourel of Yairipok, Irungbam Sanatombi d/o I Kumar of Pungdongbam Mamang Leikai, P Prem Kumar alias PK alias Ibomcha s/o P Achou of Yairipok Top and Sanabam Inaobi Singh s/o (L) S Tomal of Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai under different sections of UA(P) Act and Arms and Explosive Substance Act.
