Police cut short NTEWA sit-in

Imphal, May 31 2019: Police cut short the sit-in-protest staged by the Non Teaching Employees Welfare Association (NTEWA) RIMS demanding fulfilment of their 10-point charter of demands, in front of RIMS A-Block since yesterday, at around noon today after the protesters were driven away.

Meanwhile, NTEWA, while strongly condemning the way the protesters were driven away by police today, has declared that different modes of agitation would be launched until RIMS Director Prof A Santa is removed.

NTEWA secretary Th Babu decried that the protesters were driven away like cattle by police at the behest of the Director.

Saying that a detailed representation on how Director Santa has been treating employees would be sent to the Health Ministry, Babu maintained that the employees would never reconcile until and unless Prof Santa is removed from the post of Director.

Earlier, the Director assured that the employees' demands would be fulfilled at the earliest but the assurance was never translated into action.

Subsequently, a general body meeting of NTEWA was held on May 25 and it decided to launch a series of agitation to see that the demands are fulfilled.

Accordingly, NTEWA launched their agitation yesterday.

Accusing the Director of torturing non-teaching employees mentally every now and then, Babu said that many of the employees feel like giving up their jobs.

He said that a high power committee of the Health Ministry directed RIMS authority to fill up all vacant posts at RIMS by September 2017 but RIMS authority has been paying no heed to the Ministry's direction.

Non-teaching employees would stay away from their duties in all wards except the emergency ward and there would not be any dialogue until the Director is removed, Babu added.
