Imphal, April 27 2013 :
While some Veterinary officials recommended Korean made vaccine for swine fever, some other officials of the department term the Korean vaccine unauthorised.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press club here today, some pig farmers said that they consulted with a doctor at Sanjenthong Veterinary Hospital on April 17 about the disease infecting their pigs.
As suggested by the doctor, the farmers went to room no 305 of the hospital and consulted another doctor.
Asking if the pigs were vaccinated with Korean made vaccine which was replied in the affirmative, the doctor stated that Korean made swine fever vaccine has been declared unauthorised.
He suggested that the farmers to join together and procure swine fever vaccines from Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izzatnagar, Uttar Pradesh.
Yet, other doctors of Veterinary Department recommended Korean made vaccine.
On being consulted with doctors of the Sanjenthong Veterinary Hospital, the farmers were told to consult with Dog Care Centre, Palace Compound.
Whereas Veterinary doctors said that the Korean made vaccine remains effective for six months after it is administered, Dog Care Centre advised that a second dose should administered 15 days after the first dose was administered.
As such, pig farmers have been put in utter confusion by the contradictory recommendations/suggestions given by different officials/doctors of Veterinary Department.
Korean made swine fever vaccine should administered when the pigs are fit and healthy.
The vaccine is sold in packets filled with ice.
One doctor who was present in the laboratory of Sanjenthong Hospital told the pig farmers sarcastically, "Bring the pigs after they are dead".
"Such attitude of the officials and doctors towards farmers is disgracing and resentful", added the pig farmers.
