Imphal, January 27 2020:
Education Minister Th Radheshyam has stated that he would raise a proposal to the Chief Minister to give monetary assistance to youngsters of the State who have been selected as cadets of National Defence Academy (NDA).
Radheshyam today gave monetary assistance to parents of 14 youngsters of the State who are currently undergoing training at NDA.
Speaking at the gathering held at his Canchipur residence, Radheshyam said that some other State Governments have already started giving financial assistance to NDA cadets who belong to BPL category.
Saying that Manipur can certainly introduce such a policy, the Education Minister stated he would raise a proposal to the Chief Minister to give financial assistance of Rs one lakh to any student of the State once he/she is selected as a cadet of NDA.
Radheshyam said he came to know about the abject poverty of some families of the 14 NDA cadets from Manipur who are currently undergoing training when he talked with the NDA Commandant and Deputy Commandant during the 22nd meeting of the board of governors of Sainik Schools held recently at New Delhi.
These families find it hard to spare even Rs 3000 in a month for their sons, he said.
"As of now there is no Government policy to help these families but I'm giving just Rs 50,000 each to the 14 families from my pocket so that their financial difficulties can be eased a bit", Radheshyam said.
He said that he also raised a proposal during the meeting of the board of governors to bring all Sainik Schools of the country under the Ministry of Defence and his proposal was taken with due seriousness by all Ministers and officers who attended the meeting.
Sainik School Imphal Principal Group Captain HCS Chauhan, Sainik School Imphal Lt Commander Inderjit Yadav, Col (retd) A Narsing and Sainik School Imphal alumnus N Ibungochoubi were also present at the gathering.
