State observes Kargil Vijay Diwas

Remembering the brave heroes of Kargil War, the State observed the Kargil Vijay Diwas at the Banquet Hall of the 1st Manipur Rifles today.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Minister for Agriculture, V Hangkhanlian said that during the 74 day long Kargil War, 527 Indian soldiers sacrificed their lives for the country.
"On this occasion, we feel proud for the selfless sacrifices and courage of our soldiers who fought valiantly for the country," he said.
V Hangkhanlian recollected that after the Pakistani Army and terrorists breached the Line of Control (LOC), the Indian Armed Forces retaliated back with Operation Vijay in 1999.Paying homage to the valour of the soldiers, he said that such supreme sacrifices 'cannot not be forgotten' .

While delivering his presidential address, Minister for Forest and Environment Th Shyamkumar said that one should not forget the courage and valour of the soldiers who fought tirelessly to uphold the sovereignty and integrity of the country.
"We remember our martyrs, by revisiting the sacrifices and instilling pride and respect among us," he said and appealed to the people of the State to fight collectively against terrorism and other external forces which threaten the country.
Minister for Education Th Radheshyam, MLA of Sekmai AC H Dingo, Chief Secretary, DGP, top civil and police officials attended the function.

Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) organized various events across Manipur from July 22 to 26 to commemorate 20th Anniversary of "Kargil Vijay Diwas".
Mantripukhri Battalion paid tributes to the martyrs of the Kargil war at Mantripukhri Garrison.
The event commenced with wreath-laying by Major General K P Singh, YSM, IGAR (South) and other dignitaries including ex-servicemen at War Memorial, Mantripukhri Garrison.
This was followed by flagging off of the 'Kargil Victory Run' by Major General K P Singh, said a statement of PRO IGAR (South).
The run was participated by 250 runners including students of Assam Rifles Public School Mantripukhri, all ranks along with ladies from IGAR (South) Garrison.
The first three runners in each category were felicitated with gifts, said AR.
Kargil Vijay Diwas was also observed along with Kargil War veterans and ex-servicemen by Somsai Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles, Churachandpur Sector Assam Rifles, Thoubal & Keithelmanbi Battalions of 9 Sector Assam Rifles and Chandel & Moltuk Battalions of 26 Sector Assam Rifles by conducting various events.
The families of the martyrs and the war veterans residing in the region were also contacted and assured of all possible assistance from the Assam Rifles as gratitude for the services rendered by them to the Nation, said AR.
6 AR also observed the day with students at Temple of Learning, Canchipur.
26 AR Thoubal Bn observed the diwas with students of the Sofia English School, Fancier Academy, Brilliant Academy, Evergreen Flower School, New Era Hr Sec School, Wisdom Foundation by organising "Know Your Army Mela" at Sofia English School.
BSF under SHQ,CI (Ops) Manipur also organised various events today commemorating Kargil War Diwas.
182 Bn BSF showed Kargil movie prepared by MoD to 55 villagers and 24 BSF personnel at CI post Moirangpurel.
At BN HQ, the Unit displayed banners of prominent locations with photos and write-ups about Kargil heroes.
Unit also provided CPC canteen facilities to villagers residing at CI Post area and a blood donation/medical camp was also organised at the campus of 182 BN, BSF Koirengei.
62 BSF personnel donated blood in the camp, said BSF in a statement.
93 BN BSF, 111 BN BSF and 113 BN BSF observed the diwas with various events which include a "Run for Martyrs" from Loktak to Ningthoukhong, said BSF.
Meanwhile, district administration Thoubal observed the 20th Kargil Vijay Diwas at the Conference Hall of DC office, Thoubal today in the presence of DC Thoubal i/c L Radhakanta.
Two minutes silence was observed in honour of the martyred soldiers during the observance attended by AC to DC Teresa Tangpua, BDO Thoubal Mayengbam Itocha, SDC HQ Ranjeeta Mayengbam, SDC/BO Reema Haobam, DLOs and staff of DC office, Thoubal.
The district administration of Bishnupur commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas at Conference Hall, DC Office today.
Neeta Arambam, DC of the district, DLOs and staff of the office attended the event.
The Civil Police also celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas at SP office with Hopson Sapam, SP, Bishnupur leading the observance.
District administration Chandel too observed the diwas at DC office conference Hall.
