Kargil Vijay Diwas observed across State

The 17th Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed at different places across the State today.
Rajya Sainik Board in collaboration with the Red Shield Division, observed the 17th Kargil Vijay Diwas at Rajya Sainik Board, Lamphel, Imphal to pay homage to those Indian Army soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Operation Vijay (Kargil War), 1999 .
Prominent civil and military dignitaries attended the event and paid homage to the martyrs of Operation Vijay.
LM Khaute, DGP, Manipur, Major General V S Sreenivas; IGAR (South), Major General SS Mishra, GOC Red Shield Division graced the observance.
Speaking at the occasion, DGP LM Khaute said that Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates the valour of the Indian Army and their victory over Pakistan.
The Nation lost 527 of its brave soldiers while fighting against the Pakistani soldiers and Mujahideens.
Despite all odds, the victory in Kargil symbolizes the courage and the spirit of the Indian soldier.

More than 150 veterans participated in the event and paid floral tributes to the martyrs of Kargil War.
Among the martyrs who fought the Kargil War, five soldiers namely, Sep K Ashuli Vrc, Nk Kaleshar Kom, Nk S Genneithang, Sep NG Beningvir Moyon and Sep Chara Nicholas Moyon were from Manipur.
The next of kin of these brave soldiers were honoured and felicitated during the function.
Kargil Vijay Diwas was also celebrated in all district headquarters where the Army and Assam Rifles Units have assisted in forming Zila Sainik Boards in each District Hqs with assistance from the DC, a statement issued by PIB Defence informed.
Organised by the 6 Sikh LI, Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed at YPA Hall, Hiangtam Lamka, Churachandpur.
The programme was attended by Lunminthang Haokip, DC, Churachandpur, Brig Ajay Kumar, 27 Sector Commander, L Mangkhogin Haokip, SP, Churachandpur, Col Vijay Hooda, CO Sikh LI, Thangkhosuanmung Guite, EM/ADCC, CT Lian, EM/ADCC, ex-Servicemen and war widows.
Addressing the gathering, Brig Ajay Kumar assured the ex-servicemen and war widows of possible assistance through Zilla Sainik Board.
The Deputy Commissioner lauded the heroic sacrifices of the soldiers who fought for 60 days till Operation Vijay regained control of Siachen Glacier on July 26, 1999.Around 2 lakh army personnel were deployed in the Kargil War and 527 of them became martyrs.
20 Assam Rifles and ex-servicemen of Chandel district also observed Kargil Vijay Diwas at Zila Sainik Board officetoday.
Chandel Deputy Commissioner Robert Singh Kshetrimayum, Chandel SP N Herojit Singh, 20 Assam Rifles Major Yadvinder Singh and Captain Anand also attended the programme.
As a part of the programme, DC Robert Singh Kshetrimayum inaugurated the renovated office building of Zila Sainik Board.
DC Robert Singh Kshetrimayum said that Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed to commemorate the victory of Kargil war.
527 Indian soldiers made supreme sacrifice and gave their lives for the country.
Among those who sacrificed their lives were 3 brave soldiers from Chandel district.
The DC also assured to extend possible help to the ex-servicemen for smooth functioning of the Zila Sainik Board.
Kargil Vijay Diwas was also observed by Thoubal district administration at the conference hall of the DC office complex and by 2 AR at the Battalion Headquarters.
