Nepali man given Meetei surname

Imphal, March 24 2013 :
A 40-year old Nepali man has been given the Meetei surname of Angom under Angom Salai by the Sana Konung, Utra Shanglen today.
The Nepali, who was previously known as Lagun Arunkumar, was given the new surname by Angom Ningthou at the Utra Shanglen of Sana Konung (Royal Palace) here.
Arunkumar married Soubam Chitra (38)d/o of Soubam Ibohal and Soubam ongbi Rasi.
The couple has a son and two daughters now.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Arunkumar said that his parents and siblings have converted to Christianity.
But he did not like Christianity and choose to stay separate from them and married a Meetei woman as Sanamahi religion of the Meeteis is what he likes.
For the past 20 years, Arunkumar informed that he has been longing to become a Meetei.
But he could not find anyone to help him in this matter.
However, a report of a Muslim man converting himself to Meetei which was published in Hueiyen Lanpao attracted his attention and he came to the Sana Konung.
While thanking the Sana Konung for its favour, Arunkumar said that he has been living at the home of her wife and using her surname for their children.
