Imphal, May 23 2011:
Roadside Vendors' Welfare Association, Imphal; Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup, Khwairamband Keithel and Manipur Keithel Phambi Apunba Lup have reiterated their demand for allocating the vacant plots in the first floor of the newly inaugurated market buildings of Khwairamband Bazar to the street vendors.
In a joint representation submitted to the Chief Minister, the three bodies warned that the demand need to be heard immediately, otherwise, the aggrieved street vendors may be compelled to occupy the vacant plots in the first floor of the market buildings by their own.
The Govt has committed a breach of trust by not allocating the vacant space on the first floor of the markets, the representation asserted, while pointing out that the ground floor of the markets, which is also lying vacant should be utilised as parking space and the open space of the temporary market should also be developed into a market structure for street vendors from the fund already allocated by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the purpose.
