Imphal, June 22 2017:
The Manipur Home Guard Employees Welfare Association staged a sit in protest at Keishampat Lairembi community hall today demanding a raise in the duty allowance of home guard personnel .
Speaking to media persons, the secretary of the association Kh Inaobi Devi said that the authority concerned has not taken up any steps to increase the duty allowance of the home guard personnel despite the order issued by the Supreme Court on March 11, 2015 to do so .
She pointed out that the duties of the home guard personnel are similar to police personnel and even involve duties at the offices of various Government officials, Ministers, MLAs etc and conveyed that the meagre salary is causing immeasurable hardship for the personnel .
She further explained that the Central Government will cover 90 percent of the allowance reimbursement while the State will cover only 10 percent .
Inaobi pointed out that the association had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on June 17 regarding the issue and the sit in protest has been organised after the authority concerned failed to provide any tangible response .
The home guard personnel also organised a rally from the community hall which passed through Waheng Leikai road, Uripok and concluded at the home guard complex at Lamphel.
