Imphal, May 22 2016:
In an initiative to light up each and every house
with eco-friendly mini solar lamps, Assam Rifles is set to distrib-
ute 5000 solar lamps to the villagers residing at interior areas.
Electricity is yet to reach the interior villages located along
Indo-Myanmar border, said a statement issued.
The residents
have to finish their chores by last light and spend the hours
of darkness by candle light as few can afford generators.
The
absence of light impacts the students the most, and in many
a cases is one of the reasons for migration to towns.
The distribution of solar lamps is an ideal assistance to the
students of these villages to enable them to study in the
absence of electricity and will help the locals in uplifting the
quality of life, the statement said.
These solar lamps when fully charged can provide uninter-
rupted light for six hours and being portable, can be placed
on table and hung on wall as per the requirement.
The people friendly initiative under taken by 26 Sector
Assam Rifles under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (South), has got
overwhelming response from the school fraternity of these
remote and bordering villages and also local populace.
Security Forces exhorted the locals to preserve the environ-
ment by adopting alternative energy in a major way, which
would also ensure a safer environment and future for the
coming generations, added the statement.
