125th Quasquicentennial celebration of Ragailong kick starts
Radheshyam harps on notable contributions of forefathers

The 125th Quasquicentennial Celebration of Ragailong Pei (Village) kicked off today at the village situated near Khuman Lampak.
The celebration is to be held for two days under the theme "Passing on the Legacy of Oneness" .
Gracing the inaugural function as chief guest, Education and Labour & Employment Minister Thokchom Radheshyam Singh said the sense of oneness to thrive together harmoniously abiding by the laws of land, respecting the religion and valuing the elderly of the pei is the key for an egalitarian society .
He said that youth of the village should be aware of the notable contributions made by their forefathers who stood for the well being of the village against all odds .
He called upon the youth of the village to follow the footsteps adopted by their forefathers and preserve the rich tradition and customs of the village .
The Minister asserted that people including villagers of Ragailong should always try to follow laws of the land especially in a strife-torn State like Manipur to avoid misunderstanding and unwanted incidents .
Releasing a souvenir of the village, Radheshyam said that the souvenir is a precious gift for the youth of the village as it mentions the sacrifices and courage shown by their forefathers in safeguarding the village .
MLA Wangkhei A/C Okram Henry who attended the function as president assured that requirements of the village, including drinking water, drainage system and other daily needs will be looked into .
The MLA unveiled a memorial column erected at the village in commemoration of the construction of a culvert over the rellak Duithok (Rivulet) for the village approach road .
Established in the year 1891 at Khuman Lampak the Ragailong village was founded by the earliest seven families who lived at the Bajanam (Band Party colony).
The village facing certain natural calamities was shifted at the present location after the great flood of 1928.Though faced with numerous disputes and affected by the war and other man made calamities, Ragailong has now flourished as one of the most beautiful and promising villages of the Rongmei community .
On the occasion, the living and the departed leaders and villagers who had rendered commendable contribution and who had struggle for the development of the village were honoured.
The celebration function was organised by the Organising Committee of the Ragailong Quasquicentennial Celebration .
MLA Tamenglong A/C Samuel Jendai and president of Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) Amu Kamei were present as guests of honour .
Cultural performances by the villagers marked the first day of the celebration.
