Sensitisation programme held

The Department Social Welfare, Manipur conducted a one-day sensitisation cum training programme on the theme 'Child protection' for ASHA and Anganwadi workers at Manipur Press Club today.
Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department Th Joychandra, District Programme Officer (ICDS Cell) Ranjana Manoharmayum and Chief Medical Officer, Imphal West Dr Kula Singh graced the opening session of the programme as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Guest of honour Dr Kula said child protection should begin early from the stage of pregnancy.
He said ASHA and Anganwadi workers must work jointly with Home Department, Medical Department and Social Welfare Department for a more effective practice of Child Protection.
Chief guest Th Joychandra maintained that both ASHA and Anganwadi workers should be aware of the laws that promote child rights and protection.
The Government of India launched the Integrated Child Development Scheme in 1975 for children under 6 years of age, functional president Ranjana Manoharmayum said.
The Government of India has also implemented a Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) to help secure the safety of children.
The success of these schemes by the Government of India will depends largely on the contributions of ASHA and Anganwandi workers, she observed.
Resource persons K Pradipkumar, former CWC, Imphal East chairperson; Th Rajkishore former CWC, Imphal West member and Graniluxmi Thongjam elaborated the salient features of JJ Act, 2000, ways to combat child trafficking in Manipur and illegal adoption and its remedies.
