Imphal, August 17 2018:
The All Manipur Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has stated that even though it lauds the joint meeting which was held between the university community (MUSU, MUTA and MUSA) and the HRD Ministry and the State Government yesterday, it is skeptical about the stand taken by the university community to only temporarily suspend their agitation despite the fulfilment of all their demands by the Government.
A press release issued by the general secretary of ATSUM today appealed to the MU community to immediately open the university and restore the academic atmosphere.
As the fact finding committee has now been constituted as per the demand of the university community, ATSUM appealed all to cooperate and keep faith in the committee so that the committee can probe the allegations and charges levelled against VC AP Pandey without any delay.
The association also appealed to the university community and the people to respect the finding or report of the fact finding committee and not to resort to anymore agitation after the committee submits its findings.
On the other hand, it took serious note of the alleged covert act of the State Government regarding the process of promotion of 93 posts of MPS Grade II from Subedars/Inspectors despite the agreement reached between ATSUM and the State Government where it was agreed to defer the DPC process until and unless the ST reservation in promotion is rectified.
However, it is very unfortunate that on August 14, the Deputy Secretary of MPSC made an official correspondence addressed to the Joint Secretary (DP) Manipur, proposing the DPC for appointment by promotion to the post of MPS Grade II in the Police Department and also fixed a meeting of the DPC today, it alleged.
ATSUM stated that the act is in utter disregard of the agreement reached between the association and the State Government and urged the authority concerned to immediately defer the process of promotion of 93 MPS Grade II from Subedars/Inspectors as per the agreement and until the ST reservation is rectified.
If the authority concerned fails to adhere to the agreement, ATSUM will take up necessary actions in the interest of the tribal populace of the State, it warned.
