Imphal, May 17 2018:
The Karnataka Governor's refusal to give a chance to the Congress-JD(S) alliance to form Government despite enjoying majority in the Assembly is a direct challenge to the Constitution of India, asserted ex-Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam.
It is a matter of great concern that the Governor has been acting as the cat's paw on behalf of BJP, he decried.
Speaking to media persons today about the political developments in Karnataka, Gaikhangam asked who would protect law if the Government which is there to uphold the law breaks the law.
Thinking about India's future under BJP is rather terrifying, he remarked.
With 28 seats, Congress party emerged as the single largest party in the 11 th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
As per rules and norms, the single largest party should be invited first to form Government but Congress party was never invited.
However, in Karnataka, the Governor invited BJP to form Government on the preext that BJP is the single largest party.
Asserting that the Central Government owes an explanation for these contradictory approaches, Gaikhangam said that Karnataka would be BJP's graveyard.
"With a list of Congress MLAs, ex-Chief Minister and I went to the Raj Bhavan to give a chance to Congress party to form Government for it was the single largest party but the then Governor did not give any reply.
By violating all rules and norms, the then Governor mobilised some MLAs and allowed BJP to form Government even though it won only 21 seats", Gaikhangam recounted.
If the Central Government continues with its unconstitutional approach and arm-twisting tactics, the country would be doomed, he warned.
The Central Government did not see the Karnataka Assembly election as an election.
It treated the same election as a competition between them and some political parties.
Starting from the Prime Minister, many Union Ministers camped in Kamakata and they used all Government machinery to twist the election results in favour of BJP, he alleged.
With the incumbent Prime Minister npt speaking/behaving as a Prime Minister, people now see the Central Government as a Government of a group people and a particular party, Gaikhangam said.
All the democratic systems and laws have been twisted and truncated by the BJP-led Government.
Charging that the BJP-led Government is anti-people and anti-constitution, he claimed that such a Government has no moral right to continue in office.
