Dimapur, February 17 2016:
The Parliamentary Working Committee (PWC) of the Nagaland Joint Legislator's Forum on Naga political issue today met NSCN (IM) supremo The Muivah and a few other top leaders of the group and had a marathon deliberation on the peace initiatives between the group and the Government of India.
The 19-member PWC led by Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker Chotisuh Sazo and Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang discussed at length the status and progress of the on-going Naga political dialogue between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) .
Muivah, who is leading the NSCN (IM) in the peace talks with the Government of India, was accompanied by some top leaders of the group.
He shared his views on various issues confronting the Naga people at this critical juncture and also made several observations on the peace dialogue.
Later in the evening, the PWC delegation met Shiv Sena's Leader of Parliamentary Party in the Lok Sabha Anand Rap Absul in Nagaland House and had a useful exchange of ideas and opinions with him.
He indicated his party's readiness to support any settlement arrived at by the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) which is honourable and acceptable to all concerned.
Shiv Sena, an ally of the NDA has three Members in the Rajya Sabha.
It may be mentioned here that though the BJP commands absolute majority in the Lok Sabha, the NDA does not enjoy majority in the Rajya Sabha where parties opposed to the NDA like the INC has 67 members, Trinamool, AIADMK and JDU have 12 members each, Samata Party 15, BSP 10, CPI(M) 9 and so on.
Therefore, it is felt important to have the support of various National and regional parties since it is expected the Naga political solution will have to be discussed and passed by both houses of the Parliament.
However, delegation members are optimistic that different political parties would support any lasting and honourable settlement since the Naga peace process was initiated during the rule of the UPA and accelerated during the present Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The PWC delegation has already met BJP chief Amit Shah and JDU chief Shared Yadav yesterday and are scheduled to meet several other National political luminaries in the days to come.
