NE Tourism Fest kickstarts at Huishu river bank

The three days North East Tourism Festival was inaugurated by Ukhrul, ADC member Dr Yaronsho Ngalung yesterday at the river bank of Huishu river under Chingai Block of Ukhrul district.
Dr Yaronsho Ngalung who attended as the chief guest on the opening day urged the people of the district to extend cooperation for development of tourism in the region and dwelt on the tourism prospect of Ukhrul describing it as a place with potentials to become one of the tourist hot spots of the State.
Tourism can bring development in different ways, improve infrastructure and provide employment opportunity to the youth, he said and added that both the State and Central Government need to pay special attention to this area to attract more tourists.
Dr Yaronsho further urged the organizers of the festival to invite people with different personalities and talents to participate and not localise the festival.
The need is to sell the festival to a bigger audience, he added.
It may be mentioned that the inaugural function was delayed and deferred to the evening session as Works Minister Th Biswajit was earlier named to be the chief guest, but could not make it due to a previous engagement.
He was later replaced by Dr Yaronsho Ngalung for opening the festival.
The crowd and the performers had to patiently endure the heated blazing sun in an open space of theriver bank forat least 5-6 hours waiting for the chief guest, guest of honour, special guest and the organizers for the inaugural function to start.
According to organizers, they expect more visitors and other dignitaries on the second and third of the festival.
Folk dance and rock show marked the opening night of the North East Tourism Festival at Huishu river bank.
Villagers from Huishu, Poi, Kuirei and some visitors camped at the river bank.
