The executive committee of State BJP unit today met to discuss and chart out future course of action to be taken up with regard to the public demand for removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.
Outrightly rejecting partial lifting of the Act, the meeting resolved to intensify the party's ongoing agitation for removal of the Act from entire State of Manipur by building up mass awareness on the Act among the people and undertaking a signature campaign throughout the State.
The meeting further resolved to conduct a nationwide opinion poll against the Act through respective State BJP units.
The meeting also expressed despair at Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh's failure to initiate steps for starting dialogue between the Govt of India and the various armed groups operating in the State and demanded for convening a emergency session of the Assembly immediately.
The meeting furthermore demanded relaxation of curfew and prohibitory order under 144 Cr PC and expressed shock at the demise of P Chitaranjan Singh s/o S Suban Singh of Thakhel Leikai, who committed self immolation at Bishnupur yesterday.
MSCP demands: Manipur State Congress Party has demanded Slate SPF Ministry to immediately declare the Toribari and Mao mudslide as natural calamity and constitute a target oriented State level task force to redress the grievances of the affected families.
A meeting of the Central executive committee of the party was held today at its Palace Compound office to discuss the matter.
The meeting also iterated party demand for lifting of AFSPA from Manipur and asserted that partial lifting of the said from Imphal Municipal area alone is not satisfactory.
