Imphal, July 16 2015 :
A team of Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress (MPMC) would be leaving for New Delhi soon to gherao the Parliament against the Narendra Modi Government under the stewardship of the All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) on July 21 .
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, former IMC Chairperson and MPMC president Meinam Ranisana said that a National council meeting of the AIMC held on June 8 and 9 decided to gherao Parliament in protest against anti-people policies of the NDA Government.
A 25-member team of MPMC would take part in the scheduled agitation.
Policies and activities of the BJP-led Government are quite incongruous to what they promised to the people before the last Lok Sabha election, Ranisana said.
Notwithstanding their oft-repeated promises to pay special attention to the North Eastern region, the Modi Government has detached special category status tag from all the North Eastern States.
After enacting the Land Acquisition Act, enacted during the UPA Government was annulled, the BJP-led Government introduced a new ordinance.
The NDA Government"s promise to ensure 12 subsidized LPG refills in a year to each family remains a far cry in Manipur.
To put it more comprehensively, the BJP-led Government is pro-rich and it is more accustomed to impressive rhetoric while doing nothing worthwhile in reality, Ranisana said.
It is against such anti-people policies of the Modi Government that the AIMC decided to gherao Parliament under the leadership of its president Shobha Ozha, she added.
