Kangpokpi, February 16 2016:
Kuki Students' Organization,
Churachandpur today expressed their deep distress over the
simmering lawlessness and inter-community fanaticism in the
district.
NJ Haoneo Baite, general secretary of KSO,
Churachandpur in a statement said that the student body is deeply
pained to note the simmering lawlessness and inter- community
intolerance which have become the order of the day in
Churachandpur.
He alleged that lawlessness and inter-community intoler-
ance can be seen in the assault of Janglal Baite @ Lalboi, a
personnel of 7 Assam Rifles in civil dress just because he
belongs to the Thadou-Kuki dialect group on February 14
night at Hiangtam Lamka road.
The attackers were from a
separate ethnic group.
The said road stretch could not be avoided as it links the
district hospital and other important settlements.
Churachandpur town is home to different ethnic groups
and communal mindset should have no place, he added.
The student body appealed to the authorities concerned to
act swiftly and arrest the attackers in the interest of promoting
communal peace and harmony within 48 hours and warned
that the Government will be held responsible if they fail to pull
up the guilty.
