Newspaper anniversary for Mannaba

The 43rd foundation day of Mannaba, a Manipuri daily newspaper, was observed today at Manipur Press Club.
DGP Y Joykumar; Publisher and editor-in-chief of Mannaba, K Shyam and president of AMWJU A Mobi graced the anniversary celebration as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Y Joykumar, DGP said it is an uphill task for media persons of the State to work in conflict situation like Manipur.
While stressing on the educative role played by the media, the DGP urged the media to feed its readers with balanced news with analytical approach.
AMWJU president A Mobi said that though media persons wrote and highlighted the achievements, woes and wants of the people, they are a helpless lot in highlighting their own predicaments.
Mobi noted that the conditions of media persons remain the same though buildings of media offices are becoming taller.
Delivering a speech, Dr Aribam Ibomcha Sharma, News Editor of AIR, Imphal observed that media of the State have limitation in awakening the public on any issues.
The media only tail on issues that came up.
Stressing on the freedom of the media, Dr AI Sharma further asserted that press freedom does not imply the freedom enjoyed by the media persons but the freedom entitled to the people of information through the media.
A special issue of Mannaba was also brought out to mark the anniversary.
