Imphal, October 13 2016:
Furnishing its side of the story in response to the news item which appeared in The Sangai Express under the caption ‘Cross border traders decry’, the Indo-Myanmar Friendship Chamber of Commerce (IMFCC), Moreh has today rubbished the allegations and added that its primary objective is to streamline trade and commerce at Moreh.
In a statement issued to the press today, IMFCC said that it has been observed for long that illegal trade practices are carried out by certain elements without legal documents and added that the allegations made about force enrolment and levy of taxes are unfounded and baseless.
IMFCC urged all to extend support and cooperate in its efforts to check illegal trade practise and appealed to all not to make such unfounded and baseless allegations.
Stating that betel nuts are ferried freely through the porous border area between Gate number 1 and Gate number 2, IMFCC said that around 20 to 30 DI trucks fully loaded with betel nuts are being transported from Moreh to Imphal without any legal documents and added that it is committed to checking such illegal trade practices.
This is the reason why IMFCC has urged all to get hold of the Importer and Exporter Code (IEC) License through Directorate General of Foreign Trade to promote legal trade and boost Government revenue, said the statement.
The official visiting card distributed to the traders was meant to locate the new administrative block which was recently shifted, said the statement and added that it is ready to co-ordinate with any interested group or individual through 7085168235 and 9402084165 .
