Lamka, September 11 2015 :
The Zoram Nationalist Party has been deeply saddened by the recent events that are unfolding in the State wherein the State Government is allegedly partisan, the party's president Lalduhawma said while paying his respect to the 'tribal martyrs' here today.
On reaching Churachandpur today, the ZNP leaders immediately headed towards the district hospital where the bodies of the nine 'martyrs' are kept.
He along with party treasurer Lalbiakliana laid traditional shawls on the mortal remains and made monetary donations to their families.
Addressing the media at the hospital campus, Lalduhawma declared that the party will stand by their blood brothers in Manipur at all times and denounced the three Bills passed by the Manipur Assembly on August 31 saying the objective statement in the Bills itself are telling enough of the Government's intentions of annihilating the tribal people.
He also criticised the way these Bills have been passed saying, it was discreet and done at haste without any debate.
The Bills that had claimed so may lives should never be approved by the Governor, he said and took a dig at the tribal representatives saying they have failed the people they had represented.
'The people had been forced to do what the elected representatives are expected to do,' he said.
Calling on the tribal representatives to have the guts to quit for the sake of the people and calling on them to do so, he also expressed doubt on the authenticity of the resignation gossip of tribal MLAs that had been doing the rounds since yesterday, saying something of these magnitudes should always be officially announced.
He clarified that the present struggle is against the Government of Manipur and should not be seen or read along communal lines.
And in the same breath he declared that the time has come for the tribal people to live separately with the State's majority community.
