Imphal, June 11 2019:
The Federation of All Tribal Youth Clubs, Manipur has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding equal representation of Ministerial post in case of Cabinet reshuffle in Manipur.
FATYCM in its memorandum asserted that of the total State Area of 22.327 sq kms, a mere 2000 kms belong to the valley and the rest is of the tribals.
"Without the will and consent of the tribals, Assembly seats are marked based on mere arguments that more population are concentrated in the valley.
This excuse has created serious problems which are seen today in many forms such as bandhs, strikes, and economic blockage etc out of frustration and anger with justified reasons, many insurgent groups have emerged demanding their rights and justice," said FATYCM.
"Developing a mere small size of area and neglecting the major portion of area is contrary to the modern concept of development; if the tribals and hill areas exploited unhindered, troubles and problems in the forms of social, politics, and economic are bound to emerge," it said demanding "equal representation of Ministerial Posts while Cabinet reshuffle in the State giving emphasis on the size of the area".
It also urged the PM to give "proper and more responsible portfolios while giving the ministerial berths".
It also appealed the PM to give more emphasis on the 'need-based policy' such as communications, drinking water, health centres, education and farming etc while implementing economic programmes.
Ministerial posts like Forest, RD & Panchayati Raj, Horticulture, Works, Tribal Development should be given to the tribal elected members, FATYCM said.
