Yairipok Yambem celebrates bumper harvest

State Agriculture Department's objective of becoming Manipur self reliant in foodstuff production won't be a distant dream if the farmers of the State work hard like the farmers of Yairipok Yambem.
The farmers of the model seed village have produced 30 metric tonnes of peanuts from 50 paris of land this year thereby saving lakhs of money which may be shelled out outside the State for procuring peanut seeds.
State Agriculture Department in association with Nongpok Imphal Loumee Sinmi Apunba Lup jointly celebrated the bumper harvest by organising a programme to mark the procurement of pea seeds from the farmers at Yairipok Yambem today.
Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat Singh, Andro A/C MLA Th Shyamkumar, Agriculture Commissioner Letkhogin Haokip, Agriculture Department Director L Palendro and Nongpok Imphal Loumee Sinmee Apunba Lup President N Bimol Meetei were present in the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
In his speech, Minister Ph Parijat mentioned about the recently launched crop insurance policy in all the nine districts of the State.
He said that farmers can make up their loss from the money provided by insurance company.
MLA Th Shyamkumar Singh said that the canals which are now under construction would be completed at the earliest.
He also expressed happiness that agricultural lands remain green after rice cultivation unlike past.
Speaking at the occasion, L Palendro informed the gathering that the State would save a huge amount of money this year which is spent in procuring pea seeds from other States.
He said that 30 matric tonnes of pea seeds would be bought from the farmers of the village by the Agriculture Department and distribute it to other farmers all over the State.
The Director also informed the farmers to register themselves at the department for pea cultivation.
He also expressed hope that success of green revolution in the State is in the near future if the farmers keep on working hard in the same manner.
L Palendro also said that Manipur has stopped purchase of mustard seeds from outside as the State produces enough seeds.
