Biswajit assures to improve state of highways

Works Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh said the Government is trying to deliver good highways to the people of the State underlining the commitment of the Government to improve the state of highways .
Briefing media persons this evening after attending the 19th Fresher's Meet of Mt Everest College at Senapati, Biswajit said the work order for Mao-Imphal Highway has been issued to Bharatia Infra Projects Ltd .
He continued that the State Government had highlighted the issues facing the highway to Union Minister of State (MoS) for Road Transport & Highways Pon Radhakrishnan during a recent visit, following which the MoS had a meeting with the company officials .
Following the meeting, the Government struck an agreement with the company to start the mobilisation work from September.
He said the main objective is to provide a good highway by December by filling up the bad patches and stretches .
The Minister further appealed to the people to bear with the Government till then.
The Government will properly monitor the works so as to deliver a good highway to the people of the State, he added .
Regarding the reported non-payment of compensation to road repairing affected villagers along a stretch of the Imphal-Jiribam highway at Makru bridge, the Minister said the National Highway Infrastructure Development Company Limited is the implementing agency of the work along the highway, however, since the highway is an important State issue, the State Government will tie up with the company and try to resolve the issue at the earliest .
He said the Government will intervene so that the work is not halted and at the same time bring a solution to the hardships faced by the villagers.
He also appealed to the agitating villagers to bring the issue to the authorities concerned so that the Government may find a solution to the problem .
Earlier, while addressing students of Mt Everest College, Senapati during the Freshers’ Meet at the college auditorium,Biswajit urged the youth to understand their responsibilities towards society .
Biswajit said the youth is the future and have a big responsibility towards developing the society .
Further delving on the responsibilities of the youth towards the society, Biswajit said "we may get advice and assistance from outsiders; however, it is only when we start acting that we can bring the desired changes to our society."
He further asked the students to be hardworking, determined and ambitious in life to become successful .
Mistrust, misunderstanding and miscommunication among the different communities have been creating a social problem in the State for long, the Minister observed and added that it is time for the different communities to forget the past and forgive and work together for a more peaceful and developed Manipur .
The Minister also encouraged the students to allow their own talents to grow and said being successful is not just scoring good marks, but being successful in the field one chooses .
The college authority also submitted a memorandum to the Minister seeking proper road connectivity from the highway till the college to which the Minister assured to do the needful after consultation with the Chief Minister.
Regarding another demand for installation of a transformer for the college, the Minister asked the college authority to submit an application and added that he will act accordingly .
The Minister also said he will act on the memorandum submitted by Taphou Phyamai Village Women Society .
Senapati Deputy Commissioner Athem Muivah also attended the function .
Other highlights of the function were songs and cultural items show cased by students of the college.
