183rd death anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh observed

The 183rd death anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh was observed by State Archaeology Department of Art and Culture at Samadhi of Maharaja Gambhir Singh, Langthabal.
The programme was graced by Padmashree RK Jhalajit and scholar B Kulachandra as the chief guest and president respectively.
A floral tribute was also paid at the portrait of Maharaj Gambhir Singh.
Speaking at the programme, Rk Jhalajit said, "Maharaj Gambhir Singh won back Manipur from the hands of Burmese aggressor.
As such, his contributions towards safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur should never be forgotten" .
Maharaj Gambhir Singh's zeal and determination to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur is a lesson to be learned by younger generation, he added.
E Dinamani, Superintendent, State Archaeology Department said a State holiday is being declared today so as to enable the Government employees to take part in the death anniversary observation of Maharaj Gambhir Singh.
It is unfortunate that many did not turn up.
Dinamani appealed to all to co-operate with the authority concerned and help in observing the day successfully in coming years.
