61st Wildlife Week concludes

The 61st Wildlife Week Celebration held under the aegis of the Chief Wildlife Warden, Government of Manipur, at Chandrakirti auditorium, Palace Compound, concluded today.
Forest and Environment Minister I Hemochandra Singh graced the valedictory function as chief guest while Additional Chief Secretary (Forest and Environment) Shambhu Singh and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests PN Prasad were the functional president and guest of honour.
Speaking at the occasion Minister Hemochandra said the Wildlife Week is celebrated with a view to protect and preserve flora and fauna.
During the week long celebration, various competitions on forest related topics were held.
“More people have become aware of the importance of wild animals on our environment, which is good.
Till we (human beings) continue hunting down wild animals, we will not see much improvement in our environment” the Minister said.
Expressing disappointment that the practice of Phunga Wari Leeba is lost in the modern lives, the Minister said most of the stories passed on by the forefathers describes the relation of man with animal.
Forest and Environment Additional Chief Secretary Shambhu Singh urged to people to participate in the worldwide endeavour to save and preserve wildlife and environment.
He further informed that the State Government has been working to get Balok village of Tamenglong declared as Amul Falcon Village of India .
Principal Chief Conservator of Forest PN Prasad thanked all the people who made the Wildlife Week celebration a success.
Prizes to winners of the various competitions that were held during the celebration were also distributed by the end of the valedictory function.
