AR man held for giving cell phone to Nando

Ningthoujam Shankar (36) s/o N Ingocha of Heirok Part II bazaar, who is also a personnel of 26 Assam Rifles presently posted at Khongjom, was arrested and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East today for allegedly supplying the mobile phone handset which was used by KCP Nando Chief, Thokchom Nando, while he (Nando) was staying at JNIMS for treatment, and remanded to six days in police custody till June 12.The accused was arrested by Imphal East district police during investigation concerning the recovery of demand notes from Thokchom Nando while he was staying at JNIMS.
During the hearing today, the IO of the case submitted that an investigation is underway regarding the recovery of a Rs 5 lakh demand note by KCP, along with some live bullet rounds which were concealed inside an envelope at a jewellery shop located at Hatta Minuthong.
During the investigation, one KCP cadre, Th Subol (60) was arrested from JNIMS male ortho ward on March 9 while he was looking after his ailing son, Thokchom Nando.
On checking him, a newspaper envelope containing 10 demand notes was seized and during preliminary interrogation, Subol admitted that he had placed the demand note along with the live bullets at the jewellery shop, the IO explained.
Subol was remanded to judicial custody and on further investigation, it was revealed that Nando frequently communicated with Constable Md Manjur Ahamed who was then arrested on March 27 .
IO continued that further, two women, Irom Abe and Khunjamayum Anjali, were also arrested and during interrogation it was revealed that Thoidingjam Brojen of Uyumpok Mayai Leikai, a staff of Central Jail Sajiwa, relayed information to them and he (Brojen) also arranged their first meeting with Th Nando.
The IO explained that Th Brojen was eventually arrested but he is presently out on bail on health ground.
The IO then informed that during further course of investigation, Ningthoujam Shankar was arrested and during preliminary interrogation, Shankar admitted that he had received a sum of Rs 5000 from Thokchom Nando for buying a cell phone.
Shankar accordingly brought a cell phone and handed it over to Nando, the IO explained, adding that N Shankar had already been issued a non bailable warrant by the same Court and prayed for remanding Shankar to six days in police custody.
The Court went through the case records and remanded the alleged into police custody, till June 12 .
It may be mentioned that Thokchom Nando escaped from JNIMS on March 26, and the Session Court Imphal West directed the CBI to publish a proclamation against him.
