An eye on Imphal-Jiri road
Source: The Sangai Express
Imphal, January 05 2017:
The condition of the Imphal to Jiribam road has markedly improved in the last 15 years.
One of the most important highway, Imphal-Jiribam road is considered the life-line of Manipur.
The highway that has seen many bandhs and blockades, despite some improvements, is still a long way from development.
Nung Dalan, Kambiron and Barak area that were once considered the worst part of the Highway, has been repaired today.
|
The Makru area, the repairing work of which was undertaken by BRO is still in the same pathetic condition as before.
Even the bridges built between Jiribam to Makru are incomplete till today.
Makru bridge, which is among the important bridges on the highway can bear only one vehicle at a time.
The portion from Nungba to Keithelmanbi is so dusty that the vehicles ahead cannot see those approaching behind.
If we compare the four lane Guwahati-Silchar highway, it would not be wrong to state that the highways of the State has been left out from the development map.
The neighbouring Nagaland has also started construction of Kohima to Dimapur highway.
