Inferno reduces five houses to cinders

Kangpokpi, December 04 2019:
Five houses and properties worth more than Rs 60 lakh were reduced to conders in a devastating inferno that broke out at T Vaichong, in Kangpokpi district today morning.
TVaichong is located along the Imphal-Tamenglong road.
The fire first broke out from a shop owned by one Parshuram Thakur and soon spread to the neighbouring houses until students and teachers of T Waichong Govt.High School led by Headmaster Enock Kipgen managed to bring the inferno under control.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Students and teachers of Irang Pt-II High School, volunteers and youth, T Vaichong Village Authority, T.Vaichong Youth Club and AMGSU Irang Unit, Assam Rifles at 14 Miles and KSO Twilang Block also played a vital role to bring the fire under control.
KSO Sadar Hills on learning about the incident immediately informed the fire substation at Kangpokpi apart from alerting the district administration and police about the major fire and rushed to the spot along with the fire tenders but unfortunately the fire tender could not go up the road at a point near Toribari.
SDO T Waichong, Chunglenmang Kipgen, MCS and his team also immediately rushed to the spot and assessed the situation apart from Irang Part � I MDC Sagar Gewali to provide immediate financial assistance to the victims.
The victims of the inferno have been established as Bishnu Maya Bhujel, Parshuram Thakur, Krishna Prasad Mishra, Basundhara Khawas and Lal Bahadur Dhungana.
No casualty has been reported in the incident.
The fire also damaged two HT wire and another two low tension wire.
The Kuki Students' Organization, Sadar Hills said the inferno could have been controlled more easily if sufficient and upgraded fire tenders were in station at Kangpokpi and questioned why the same had been requisitioned elsewhere.
The student body also asked the State Government and the department concerned to immediately compensate the loss and help rebuild the damaged houses.
Meanwhile, all Manipur Gorkha Students' Union also expressed solidarity to all the victims of the inferno and expressed gratitude to the student community, teachers, KSO Twilang block and KSO Sadar Hills, especially its president Thangminlen Kipgen for his role in tackling the situation, the district administration, police and Assam Rifles.
It also urged the state Government, department concerned and the district administration to address the hardships and inconvenience of the victims at the earliest.
