Home Minister assures action against police commandos

The police commandos involved in the killing of Thiyam Romenkumar would face the music, according to Home Minister Gaikhangam.
This assurance was given by Home Minister Gaikhangam to family members and representatives of the JAC formed in connection with the killing of Thiyam Romenkumar during a meeting held today.
During the meeting, the JAC representatives put forward their demands of punishment to the guilty police commandos; payment of compensation and a Government job to the next of kin of the deceased.
To that, the Home Minister reportedly told the representatives that the police commandos involved in the killing have been identified and fitting action would be taken against them in a couple of days.
Thiyam Romenkumar of Irom Meijirao Mamang Leikai was killed in a reported encounter with Imphal West district police commandos yesterday morning at Lamdeng Khunou.
Police claimed to have recovered two hand grenades and a 9mm pistol from the slain man.
A JAC was formed against the killing.
The JAC said that Romen was whisked away by some armed persons in plainclothes right in front of his son in the wee hours yesterday.
Gaikhangam also assured payment of compensation before the performance of the last rite (Sorat) of the deceased.
The JAC representatives have also warned of launching agitation if the promises were not fulfilled within a couple of days as promised to them.
Following the assurance, the JAC has decided to claim the body, according to the JAC.
