Imphal, May 03 2014 :
Construction of an approach road to Thumbuthong (bridge) by filling earth to the desired height is gaining momentum, said a top ranking official of PWD.
As the road is being constructed anew by filling earth, the road becomes soggy and muddy when there is little rainfall.
The condition becomes worse as vehicles continuously move over it.
It was planned to lay a layer of pebbles/stones one foot in thickness after the newly filled earth gets consolidated to the desired level.
Even though it is muddy, stones have been put over the surface today and it would be completed in the next couple of days.
After this, the road would be black-topped but this process would take some time, explained the official.
Notably, Sanjenthong bridge which is a key link between Imphal West and Imphal East has been already closed to public as the Government has initiated necessary steps to reconstruct the bridge.
The official further appealed to use Singjamei bridge, Loklaobung bridge, Minuthong, Lamlong bridge or Salanthong in place of Sanjenthong.
