Imphal, January 03 2019:
The organising secretary, Multi-disciplinary International Seminar, has clarified that all the reports and allegations with regard to a seminar on 'A Perspective of Global Research Process : Present Scenario & Future Challenges' to be organised by Manipur University Department of Commerce and TOUCAN Research and Development, are false and baseless.
A clarification issued by Kh Tomba Singh, organising secretary, claimed that towards the end of October last year, TOUCAN Research and Development sent a proposal to the Department of Commerce for organising the lecture, the expense of which was to be borne by the said organisation (TOUCAN Research and Development).
To deliberate the proposal, the HoD of the Commerce Dept issued a notice on December 3 calling for a meeting at 12.15 pm the next day (December 4) at the HoD office.
It continued that the organisation of the international seminar was green-lit during the meeting and following the decision, the Department of Commerce, through the Organising Secretary, sent a formal notice to the Registrar, MU, regarding the seminar as well as for making necessary arrangements for 15 double bedded rooms at MU Guest House for the delegates who are supposed to participate in the seminar.
Informing that the notice was received by the Registrar office and relayed to the authority concerned on December 11, it condemned the alleged attempt to tarnish the image of the international seminar which has been planned legally after going through all the necessary formal channels.
It further clarified that any bank/money transactions by the organisers for the event/for paying the delegates, have no relation with the Department of Commerce, MU and added that neither the Department nor TOUCAN Research and Development have collected any money from delegates (from the State or outside) for taking part in the seminar till date.
For Manipur, it was earlier agreed that the registration fee would be taken in cash by the Commerce Department, it added.
