The 55th foundation day of the Meetei National Assembly was observed today during a simple event organised at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul.
Speaking as the chief guest, Kh Ibomcha, MLA Lamlai Constituency and Chairman of Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited underscored the importance of safeguarding Manipuri language, script, religion, culture and tradition.
Touching upon the lack of a common consensus in this regard among people, he expressed sorrow that people from the same community share different opinions and cause friction in society.
If people of the same community continue to fight over such issues, it will lead to a weakening of the community and various aspects of the community such as the very things they want to safeguard, promote and protect, he opined.
During instances of disagreement, people need to approach the situation in a calm manner, discuss the issue and still stand united, he maintained.
The function was also attended by Ngairangbam Thambalngou Meetei, chief advisor, Meetei National Assembly; Chandam Ibomcha Meetei, president, Supreme Council, Meetei National Assembly; Akham Langol, advisor, SEACO; Wahengbam Pamheiba Meetei, president Central Committee, Meetei National Assembly and Wahengbam Ongbi Sana Leima as presidium members.
