Imphal, July 01 2016 :
Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Trainee's Union, Takyel has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to restrain the State Government from shifting ITI Takyel to an 'unsuitable' site.
The union submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister in this regard today.
The memorandum requested the Prime Minister to direct the State Government to initiate appropriate actions to develop and improve the institute at the present campus by adding modern infrastructure and technologies.
It also urged the Prime Minister to instruct the State Government to impart refresher course to the teachers/Instructors to gain new technical knowledge for the benefit of the trainees/students.
This institute is a backbone for human resource development in the State of Manipur.
ITI, Takyel (Imphal West District) is the first and oldest ITI in the State having sufficient infrastructure located in a vast area of 20 acres, well connected and easily accessible by roads, the memorandum said.
The institute is situated about 5 km away from the heart of Imphal city and is the only ITI of Imphal West district.
The ITI Takyel, is the only ITI in Manipur State getting affiliation from National Council on Vocational Training (NCVT) after fulfilling all the guidelines of Director General of Employment and Training (DGET) Govt of India.
At present there are about 175 teachers on contract basis on payment of Rs 7000 per month and about 10 teachers are serving on regular basis, indicating that there is deficiency/requirement of regular teachers.
The contract teachers have been serving the institute since the past more than 14 years with minimum pay.
Many class rooms of the ITI Takyel are used partly as store and vehicle sheds are now utilised and occupied by the contractors.
The driving field for motor mechanic trade is also now used for other purpose, the memorandum said.
ITI Takyel is in a very pathetic condition which urgently requires immediate attention and follow up action from the ends of the State Government, it added.
Instead of initiating immediate action for improvement of oldest and largest ITI of the State, the Govt took the decision to shift the institute to a very remote corner.
The State Government decided to shift the ITI Takyel to Sekmai which is about 22 kms from the heart of the Imphal town which does not have the facility of proper public transport system, the memorandum said.
The institute is mainly for youths belonging to poor section of the Society, as such, it would be very difficult to attend the institute by the poor students, as there is no facility of public transport system in the said location.
At present, in Manipur, all the Districts have one ITI each, except Imphal East district and Thoubal district which have two ITIs each.
If ITI Takyel is shifted to other district, then there would be no more ITI for Imphal West district which is in contradiction of the guidelines of having atleast one ITI for each district and at Block levels in the State, the memorandum said.
