Imphal, June 30, 2012:
Accusing police of refusing to act against a culprit involved in murdering a jeep driver of Tora Aheng village, Ukhrul district even after the culprit has been arrested, the victim's family have submitted a petition to the DGP.
Pauringyo Horam s/o Leishi Horam of Champhung Changta village had reportedly confessed that he killed jeep driver Worinkhan Khamrang s/o Ingencha Khamrang of Tora Aheng village.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Thuingalong Khamrang, elder brother of Worinkhan Khamrang said that Worinkhan went to Somdal village together with Pauringyo Horam on June 20 to pull up his jeep which had broken down on the way.
At about 5 pm next day, Thuingalong and their family were informed through telephone that Worinkhan had died following a road accident near Hundung Cement Factory.
But when the family members went to the spot and observed Worinkhan's body, it did not look like he died due to a road accident.
After a case was registered at Ukhrul police station, the owner of the jeep Pauringyo Horam was pulled up.
After post mortem of Worinkhan Khamrang's body at Ukhrul district hospital, it became clear that he did not die due to road accident.
Subsequently, Leishi Horam, father of Pauringyo Horam came to family of Worinkhan and disclosed indirectly that Worinkhan was killed by his son, claimed Thuingalong.
After this, Worinkhan's family went to Ukhrul PS and asked about the death of Worinkhan to Pauringyo directly.
There Pauringyo reportedly confessed that he killed Worinkhan.
Even after Pauringyo had confessed his crime, police did not take up any action on the false excuse that Worinkhan was killed in road accident, and the accused was never produced before a civil court.
Instead, the accused was released on June 26. Decrying the alleging act of condoning the accused by Ukhrul Police, the victim's elder brother asserted that such attitude of police has severely eroded public faith in police department.
Seeking immediate attention of the DGP, Thuingalong pleaded the authority to do justice regarding the alleged murder of his younger brother.
He also conveyed that a petition has been submitted to the DGP.
